Good afternoon!  Here’s another in a winning streak of sunny days.  The Orcas Island Community Church rocked (jigged?!) this AM with Hailee Grantham and Pam Wright on the flute and fiddle, respectively!  Hands were clapping and toes were tapping!

Greetings! The sun is shining here on Orcas, and we might be suckered again into thinking warmth will follow!  But when the sun starts to drop in the afternoon, the mercury goes into a free-fall too.   You can tell a true NorthWesterner on days like today.  They’re the ones in shorts!

Mini Rant:  Enough already with the in-your-face election advertising. Some Phhhhht! Awards:

Commercials for Initiative 1098, “Tax the Hell out of WA State Citizens” which don’t mention anything about income tax, just that the initiative will “benefit schools” — Reminds me of the rousing campaign for the WA State Lottery–which was supposed to solve the school funding problems of Washington State forever.  VOTE NO!  We can’t afford it!

Ping-pong commercial breaks where all the sides are represented in bad-taste sound bites.  Or long-time politicians (decades in some cases) still blaming someone else for everything, even though they have significantly predated or outlasted everyone.  Is the last man standing a victim or victor?  Are there no incumbents who are willing to take responsibility for the abysmal record of congress over the last 4 – 6 years.   Well, they are good at something:  spending my money faster than I can make it!

Shameless Plug:  If you’re up for it, catch the newest of Berklee College of Music Internet Radio DJ’s–Steve “Ze Fuht” Baker on This Is Now Saturday, live on the air 10AM – 12AM EST (8AM – 10AM Orcas Standard Time) on Saturday mornings.  To listen, click on the LISTEN NOW link at TheBirn.net during his show.  For an added bonus, click on the link to the DJ Cam and see Steve in action!

EVERYBODY IS WATCHING!

A couple of interesting articles about the illusion of privacy we entertain about our internet usage, habits and those who pay for the data:

Another good reason not to have an unsecured wireless network in your home. Password that signal, people! Google’s StreetView  cars, currently roaming the earth to record what your house looks like, also picked up some email and passwords from the unsecured wifi networks they encountered on their expedition to record and reveal how well you keep your yard up, among other things.  Click Here for the article!

Check out this more chilling discussion about Mobile Zombie Cookies from technologyreview.com,  about wee little behaviour tracking devices that advertisers use to remember you and target you with advertising.  Planted on your phone when you browse sites like CNN and The Weather Channel  on your mobile device, some iPhone and iPad customers discovered zombie cookies that were impossible to delete.  Read also about the Federal lawsuit pending. . .

Have a great day!  And hey, let’s be careful out there! : )
